7 Tom Ford Lip Color Shine Swatches

Having tried the original Tom Ford Lip Color series, I was left unsatisfied with few natural colors to choose from. The various reds were beautiful but not wearable on a daily basis. There were no natural corals and only a few natural pinks but my favorite, Pink Dusk, showcased lines on my lips that I didn't even know existed!

But all my prayers had been answered with the new series, Lip Color Shine! It has plenty of natural looking colors to choose from, the sweet creamy scent is delicious as always and none of them made my lip lines obvious! 

I love them so much I got 7 out of 10 shades! The only ones I skipped were a bright red, not useful enough on a daily basis; a purplish brown, too sickly looking; and a chalky pink, will wash me out no doubt. The remaining colors were all so pretty and natural looking, I couldn't decide which ones to forgo so I got them all!

Here are the colors. I chose
3 pinks, 2 nudes, and 2 corals.

Under natural indoor lighting.
-Smitten and Frolic are both between being pink and orange, with Smitten being lighter and having stronger golden shimmers than Frolic. Frolic is more pigmented than Smitten, similar to Quiver.
-Insidious is the only one here that's actually orange, even then it still leans a little towards pink.
-Quiver is less pigmented than Ravenous but has a golden sheen that Ravenous does not.
-Abandon has an orangy look once applied and is much lighter than Nubile.
-Nubile is a dark reddish brown that looks more lively than most browns.

Arm swatches. The colors don't have much coverage and will let some of your own lip color show through. They can be layered, however, to achieve a more pigmented look. What you will definitely get is a wet-looking shine that is moisturizing and comfortable to wear.

The first one up is 02 Smitten. This is a very natural looking color, it makes my lips look lighter with lots of golden shiny particles, the end result is very cute and innocent looking.

The coverage in 02 Smitten is minimal but very natural looking in that it adds just the right amount of chalkiness to achieve a young innocent look without washing me out. Usually, chalky lip colors like Nars Turkish Delight make me look like a corpse, not this one, it's lovely! Due to the minimal coverage and natural coloring, I think Smitten will suit just about any complexion.

03 Quiver is a medium pink with golden shimmers, not nearly as much as Smitten and don't look as sparkly on the lips either.

03 Quiver has more coverage than Smitten and here you can see the distinct pink hue with the sheen from the golden shimmers. Due to the slightly cool tone, I think this one will suit fair-skinned ladies the most, although the golden shimmers certainly warm it up a bit, so don't rule it out completely if you have a darker/warmer complexion.

04 Ravenous is a bright fuchsia, mainly pink, not purple. The iridescent shimmers don't really show up on the lips, just a glassy sheen can be observed.

04 Ravenous is very saturated on the lips, giving me that high-voltage red lipstick look, except it's pink and more wearable. Due to the strong pigmentation I think Ravenous will work on just about everyone.

06 Abandon is a light nude color, it looks lighter on the lips than in the tube. There are no shimmers.

06 Abandon surprised me as it turned creamy orange on my lips. The look is young and sweet, not at all the boring nude I was expecting. Abandon's coverage is stronger than 02 Smitten but still on the light side. If you have darker lips, it might not show up well. Also, those with very fair and cool-toned skin might find it too orange for their complexion.

07 Nubile is the dark nude in this series. It's not an ordinary nude either. This one leans red and looks rather lively on the lips. It has minimal golden shimmers that don't show up on the lips.

07 Nubile also looks lighter on the lips than in the tube. A little extra reddish hue keeps it from looking old; the glassy shine adds a low-profile sexiness; making Nubile much less matronly than most dark browns. I think most ladies can pull this one off.

08 Frolic is half-way between pink and orange. It has golden shimmers that further warms it up.

The intensity of coverage on Frolic is comparable to 03 Quiver, a medium sheer. Again, those with darker lips will have more trouble getting close to the color they see in the tube. Comparing to 03 Quiver which leans towards cool pink, this one is significantly warmer will suit more yellow-undertoned ladies.

09 Insidious is an orange with silver shimmers. It's more orange than 08 Frolic but stills leans a little towards pink.

09 Insidious looks more like a pink coral on my lips due to the fact that the coverage isn't strong so some of my slightly-purple pink lip color is peeking through. Even though orange is a very warm color, the fact that Insidious leans pink and has silver shimmers in it makes it much more wearable for someone with a cool-toned complexion. I think everyone can make this shade work.

Here is a comparison of the 2 nude shades to nude lip colors from other brands. The glassiness of Tom Ford Lip Color Shines is very noticeable. They look equally wet and shiny on the lips and the shine lasts for hours, usually until I wipe it off before a meal.

-ELF Studio Lip Balm in Peach is less pigmented than 09 Insidious and don't have the glassy sheen.
-Revlon 015 Tutti Frutti is much more orange than 09 Insidious, so much that it almost leans yellow.
-Dior Addict 544 Jet-Set is more shimmery and pigmented than 09 Insidious.
-Revlon Peach Parfait is more shimmery and leans more pink than 08 Frolic.
-Dior Addict 437 Charmant is a non-shimmery version of Frolic, they are both pink corals.
-Revlon Lip Butter in Creamsicle and Strawberry Shortcake are too different from 02 Smitten to make a comparison.

Tom Ford Lip Color Shine Summary: 
Strengths:
1. Beautiful colors that lights up the face and complements one's complexions
2. Natural shades that are wearable on a daily basis
3. Moisturizing and comfortable to wear
4. Glassy shine that lasts for hours
5. Deliciously sweet, creamy smell
6. Luxurious and functional packaging

 Weaknesses:
1. Some of the lighter shades may not show up well on more pigmented lips due to sheer coverage
2. Due to the moisturizing formula, it may break easily on very hot days. One can minimize this problem by not twisting up too much when applying.
3. Price is high comparing to other high-end brands

Overall, TF Lip Color Shine is a great choice. What really tipped the balance in its favor is the delicious smell, which is so rare in a lipstick! Most brands either botch it, like Burberry, or leaves it out of the picture, like Dior or Armani. Tom Ford actually got it right! Amongst the numerous brands of lipsticks I have tried, only a handful smelled nice to me and Tom Ford takes the crown in terms of pleasing my nose, in addition to my lips!
